Piper Elementary School is nestled in the heart of Berwyn that opens its doors every year to about three hundred and fifty students and staff. Our students show extreme pride for their school each and every day. Over the past four years we have worked tirelessly to ensure that we are meeting our school’s vision. We firmly believe that Piper School should be a place that facilitates learning opportunities so all students can develop into conscientious community members who are actively involved in school as well as local events and experiences that shape their character. We pride ourselves in our clubs that focus on community engagement including Our American Voice and Green Team. One challenge that we have had at Piper is inadequate playground and recess equipment. Our playground, that is open to the community when school is not in session, has not been updated in the past decade and it does not meet the current needs of our school and community. We have found the equipment to be cumbersome, lacking in imaginative play, not age appropriate for our primary students, and worn out in several areas. We are dreaming of a playground that is handicap accessible, meets the developmental needs of all of our students, welcomes more community members, and fosters a love for exercise and cooperative play.
